2020 / 2021 Season FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How many people are allowed in the gym for tryouts? We are limited to 25 individuals (including coaches) in the gym per session pursuant to the State’s COVID restrictions. This means spectators, such as parents, are prohibited. Given that these hour-long time slots include two teams, we recommend registering as soon as possible. First come, first served.

2. I notice there's a cost this year to tryout. Why? The $10 tryout fee applies regardless if you attend one session (required) or two (preferred). This new fee is to offset the cost of the site.

3. We don't live in Cherry Hill, but our township is not having a travel basketball season. Because of the, can she tryout? Tryouts and teams are for Cherry Hill residents only.

How many tryout sessions must the player attend? Players must attend 1 of the 2 tryouts in her actual grade for consideration. That said, players are encouraged to attend both sessions.

5. When will roster decisions be made? We strive to notify all players by the end of the tryout week.

6. What COVID protocols will you be following? For players, temperatures will be taken prior to entrance into The Coliseum. Players will also have to complete an online health questionnaire prior to arrival. With regards to spectators, at this time no parents, guardians or other companions are permitted inside the gym. Direct access to the gym is located on the right side of the building. Masks must be worn at all times, unless competing on the gym floor. This means masks must be worn while entering the facilities and are to be worn by coaches.

7. Does every player make a team? In years past, we've attempted to place all players on a team. However, this year is a bit different, as we navigate gym availability and necessary COVID protocols. There may be players who are not placed on a team.

8. Are there more than one team for each grade? Typically, the answer is "yes." As turnout numbers remain uncertain in this year of years, we are unsure if we can field multiple teams per grade level. Unlike other seasons, we must also take into consideration gym availability. Normally, coaches for each grade decide how to split up players and which league their team will play in. This year, however, will inevitably be different.

9. How much does the season cost? This figure will not be finalized until the number of players/teams are known. We charge only as much as we need to break even on our season budget. Typically, season cost is $250-$350.

10. What will the season actually look like? Right now, the plan is to practice throughout November and December. Our league (ICBL) is anticipating having a season from January until early March. This is a unique time, but we will attempt to have two practices weekly following tryouts.

11. What about uniforms? CHGTB uses reversible high-quality A4 jersey and shorts, along with a mesh practice jersey and warm-up shirt. The entire kit typically costs $90. Returning players can purchase items a la carte.
